Education and Sustainable Development
Education for a Better World
The Hearth believes that education plays a crucial role in creating a better, more sustainable world. Our work, from curriculum development and training to institutional change and creation, is underpinned by an emphasis on sustainability. The broader developmental objectives guide our work and our advice. We believe that educational institutions, policies and curriculum structures need to make a difference in the world. These themes of sustainable development, therefore, are part of all our planning, research and advisory services in education. We specially focus on climate action, diversity, reducing gender and other inequalities, innovation, well-being, and the power of education in reducing poverty and improving the quality of lives.
The Hearth supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through our wide range of work with local communities and globally. We attempt to gain a deep understanding of cultural perspectives, social theories and developmental initiatives, which guide our work.
UN SDGs that our work has focussed on include:
- Goal 2 – Zero Hunger
- Goal 3 – Good Health and Well-Being
- Goal 4 – Quality Education
- Goal 5 – Gender Equality
- Goal 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation
- Goal 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth
- Goal 9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
- Goal 10 – Reduced Inequalities
- Goal 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities
